Loehmann's names Steven Newman CEO

Loehmann's Holdings Inc. announced that Steven M. Newman has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Newman will also be a member of Loehmann's Board of Directors, and will join the company in the second week of June. Mr. Newman assumes the CEO role from interim CEO Joe Melvin who will remain as COO of the company.
Chairman of the Board, Art Reiner said, "We are delighted to have Steve join Loehmann's as CEO. His range of experience working with numerous top quality retailers over the years will benefit us greatly as we look to grow our business and expand our brand. I also want to thank Joe Melvin who has provided Loehmann's with invaluable leadership over the past few months. With the combined strengths of Steve and Joe, we believe we are well positioned to capitalize on opportunities to build our company."
Mr. Newman, 51, brings more than 25 years of experience in the women's retail business having most recently served for four years as President of Ashley Stewart Inc., a women's specialty retailer. While there, he was responsible for overseeing all areas of the company including merchandising, marketing, design, production, retail operations, store presentation, planning and allocation, and CRM. Prior to that, Mr. Newman was Executive Vice President at New York & Company for four years, responsible for merchandising, design and store presentation. From 2000 to 2002, he was President of Eddie Bauer Apparel. Mr. Newman also spent five years at Brooks Brothers in various positions, leaving as President in 2000. In addition to Ann Taylor and Gap, Inc., Mr. Newman worked at Burdines as a buyer and started his retail career at Macy's East in New York.

Loehmann's Board of Directors was assisted in the recruitment of Mr. Newman by Herbert Mines Associates.
Founded in 1921 as the "Original Designer Outlet," Loehmann's is a leading national specialty retailer for designer and brand name women's apparel, accessories and shoes as well as men's sportswear and furnishings and children's apparel, all at 30% to 65% below department store prices. Loehmann's operates 40 stores with locations in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
