On the back of unrest in the Middle-East and a few African countries, Albania is turning in to an attractive destination for foreign investors, say apparel exporters.

The clothing industry is the largest export revenue generator for this Balkan country and represented 35 percent of overall exports in 2010, up from 27 percent in 2008.

In the first four months of 2011, garment exports achieved 19 percent growth over the same period of 2010.

Against exports of €198 million in 2008, the country exported apparels and accessories amounting to €216 million in 2010, up 9 percent all to the EU.

Clothing exports to the EU were mainly directed at Italy (74.4%), Greece (5.2%) and Germany (4.1%).

60 percent of apparel exporters believe that, reducing lead times in apparel production was one of the most important factors for their success.

They also consider the increase in exports to a higher quality of products made in Albania as well as the political unrest in Africa and Middle-East.

There are around 315 companies in the apparel manufacturing sector, of which 17 percent are foreign invested companies, together providing employment to around 70,000 people.
