To ensure their online and in-store sales growth, retailers need to integrate digital commerce. Brick and mortar is one such trend that will enhance a customer’s on-site interactions in 2018. Consumerisation of B2B will also digitalise things, creating a buyer-centric and easy ordering process and mobile checkout will overtake desktop checkout.

AR (Augmented Reality) will be another game-changer, enabling customers to use mobile devices to visualise items before purchasing. Artificial intelligence will create the ideal customer experience, as per the report ‘10 e-commerce Trends for 2018’, released by Absolunet.

Moreover, a new measure of retailer’s success will be Research Online, Purchase Offline (ROPO) ratios. The retailers will know amount spent on in-store sales caused by every dollar spent on digital sales. Also, e-commerce giant Amazon is expected to continue its relentless growth and will become an important element in every e-commerce business plan of 2018, mentions the report.

Additionally, in 2018, voice will change SEO forever. Consumers will speak to their devices and use voice to interact. Thus, for SEO, voice will provide a single result instead of multiple results. Not only photo shopping will help customers to make an image-based search for the first time but also reaching peak browser will diminish dependence on browsers. Mixed with mobile apps, AR interfaces and voice interactions, the browser will become channel among many others.

“The technologies themselves already exist, we expect the adoption and proliferation of these technologies to grow substantially this year, changing the very nature of how companies do business,” says Charles Desjardins, senior vice president of Absolunet. “We hope that the report helps retailers, manufacturers and distributors gain valuable insight and help them choose the right strategies and partners to bridge the e-commerce gap.”

Absolunet is an e-commerce agency and integrator creating ROI (Return on Investment)-producing e-commerce experiences since 1999. (VM)
