Sanjeev Mohanty, who helped Benetton’s India business grow from less than $10 million to over $300 million in about eight years time, is leaving Benetton Group, according to media reports.

Michel Lhoste, who is International Business Director, Benetton Group since September 2014, will be the interim CEO at Benetton India, a statement from Benetton Group said. Lhoste has earlier served as Group General Manager of Sixty Group, General Manager in Belstaff Group, and also held senior management positions in Slowear, Salvatore and Mantero Seta.

Mohanty was the youngest business head ever when he took over as head of India business in November 2004. He managed three Italian fashion retail labels – Benetton, Sisley and Undercolors – in India, during his tenure as Managing Director of Benetton India Pvt. Ltd.

Under Mohanty’s leadership, United Colors of Benetton India was listed as one of the Top 50 firms to work for in the retail sector consecutively for three years from 2012 to 2014.

Though not confirmed, it is believed that Mohanty will join e-commerce firm Jabong, owned by Global Fashion Group, as its new CEO. (RKS)
