Shopo, a zero-commission, mobile app based marketplace launched by Snapdeal in July this year has achieved an unprecedented 1 million active product listings in just three months. It has also witnessed 200,000 plus app downloads, indicating its growing popularity among consumers, Snapdeal said in a press release.

With zero-registration charges, quick listing process and an engaging direct-chat interface that replicates seamless offline experience, Shopo is proving to be an enabling platform for small shop owners and individual sellers to conveniently set up online stores.

“Our vision is to create life changing experiences for 1 million small businesses by 2017. Shopo is a key pillar of the digital commerce ecosystem that we are building to achieve this vision. The platform enables sellers to set up their online shop at zero cost and access markets like never before. The rapid adoption by micro and small sellers in a short span of three months is a great validation of the Shopo model. Shopo is well poised to unleash the next wave of e-commerce in India,” Kunal Bahl, Co-founder and CEO, Snapdeal said commenting on the milestone.

Sandeep Komaravelly, Senior Vice President, Shopo said, “The Shopo marketplace was designed to cater to the rising demand for open and free models of commerce, allowing convenient and direct engagement between buyers and sellers. The rapid scale-up in listings, significant increase in app downloads, page views and robust chat interactions on the platform, are an endorsement of the value Shopo is creating for buyers and sellers.”

According to the Snapdeal-KPMG report on Impact of E-commerce on SMEs in India, 43 per cent SMEs in India participate in online sales, out of which only 27 per cent engage in e-commerce; however, 69 per cent of SMEs reported an increase in consumers due to the internet. Recognizing this opportunity, Shopo is creating networks connecting the often overlooked unorganized space of individual sellers, home-preneurs and micro businesses with customers across the country.

With a significant share of Indian consumers preferring direct engagement, Shopo enables price and delivery negotiations allowing transacting parties to close the process through mutual consensus. Recently Shopo launched peer-to-peer chat functionality and Hindi content, allowing buyers to exchange views, images, and browse simultaneously with their social groups, the release said. (SH)
