UK and Germany are two of the five highest ranking countries in the world in terms of online retail sales, says a new report by yStats.com, a leading market research company.

The report states that Europe is among the largest B2C e-commerce markets across the globe. Germany and UK account for nearly half of the region's B2C online sales and have the highest online shopper penetration rates in 2015 in Europe, followed by France, which also recorded a high penetration rate.

Clothing was purchased by the highest share of online shoppers in 2015 in many countries in Europe, the report revealed. Amazon was one of the market leaders in terms of sales and website visits. In the clothing category, Germany-based Zalando and Bonprix, UK's Asos, and Russia -based Wildberries kept high ranks in their markets of operations.

The increasing popularity of mobile and cross-border shopping were stated as some common characteristics emerging in the online retail markets across Europe by the research firm.  The countries covered in the report are Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Turkey, and the UK.
