Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 4.9 per cent before seasonal adjustment—the smallest 12-month increase since the period ending April 2021.
The energy index rose by 0.6 per cent in April after decreasing by 3.5 per cent in March. The increase in the gasoline index more than offset declines in other energy component indexes.
Other energy components declined, as the natural gas index decreased by 4.9 per cent over the month, the third consecutive decrease in that index.
The index for all items less food and energy rose by 0.4 per cent in April, as it did in March.
The energy index decreased by 5.1 per cent for the 12 months ending April.
