Archroma, a Switzerland based global colour and specialty chemical company, introduced Roadmap to Rational Denim – a collaborative project on denim by Archroma, Garmon, Lenzing and Royo – at 'WHY by Kingpins' booth in The Kingpins Show, Amsterdam held from April 13-14, 2016.

The project aimed at showing that fashion, innovation and sustainability can work together in the case of denim. A prototype collection showing sustainable denim fashion was displayed during the show. Details of the collection were shared during the 'Roadmap to Rational Denim' conference held on April 14, 2016, according to a press statement released by the company.

The water needed to produce one pair of jeans is said to be approximately 11,000 litres. With approximately 167 million pairs of jeans produced monthly, approximately 1,837,000,000,000 litres of water is consumed every month.

The idea of the project is to produce denim garments based on the most-efficient use of resources possible, in particular water, at each stage of the production – from fibre to finish.

Each company contributed to the project with their expertise in their part of the manufacturing process to provide a working guideline, a roadmap towards more rational and sustainable production of jeans. (MCJ)
