The Sustainable Man show has hogged the limelight on the second day of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort (LFW S/R) 2017. Based on the concept of ‘Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles’, the fashion platform highlighted experiences around sustainable fashion in India. The collections for Sustainable Man show were unveiled by fashion retailer Ajio.

The show displayed men’s wear by designers Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham & Thakore and Péro. The Abraham & Thakore label by David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore known for their sustainable and organic designs had developed a stylish parade of unconventional garments – Dandy March, for the fashion event. Using only discarded fabrics like bed sheets, cushion covers and off- cuts, the duo made a creative attempt at recycling waste material from off cuts on the factory floor. By using techniques like Boro, Pojagi, Kantha and quilting, the fabrics were presented in an innovative manner.

Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh had displayed recycled, reused and reworked line. The prime focus was on khadi and old denim, along with fibres and yarns cleverly created from recycled plastic bottles and salvaged garments. Highlighting the actual concept of sustainable fashion Rajesh presented a collage of his past and present work. He creatively upcycled and reused, unsold, rejected, merchandise from his collections and turned them into a new avatar of style for men.

Known for her unconventional, organic designs for women, Aneeth Arora’s label ‘Pero’ at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 turned her creative gaze onto men’s wear. (RR)
