Craftsmen belonging to Hanoi and northern provinces of Ha Tay and Nam Dinh, in collaboration with Hoa Anh Dat Company, have built a gigantic pair of shoes from wood for APEC 2006. These shoes are about 2.4 meters long, 0.78 meters wide, 1.2 meters high and weigh 300 kg.
These craftsmen wandered in numerous forests of the north to find appropriate trees for the shoes. It took 10 days to process the trees into wood and painting of the shoes took one month.
Handle of the shoes is endorsed by oriental designs which comprise the symbols of earth, sky, sun, universe, grass and bamboo trees. This handle, which took 20 days for preparation, is attached to the body of these wooden shoes by 16 bronze nails, each weighing one kg. |
