Speaking to fibre2fashion, Mr. Jahangir Alamin said, “We have been assured that India is not going to ban the export of cotton.”
“We are in a relief that India will continue to export cotton and about seven million bales of cotton is likely to be exported from India this year,” he adds.
However, he quickly adds, “Bangladesh is not solely depending on Indian cotton for manufacturing textiles, we are partial users of Indian cotton.”
“We import only 30-35 percent of cotton from India and the rest of the cotton comes from other cotton producing countries such as the US and Australia,” he informs.
Last month, Anand Sharma, India’s Cabinet Minister of Textiles, stated that there will be no ban on cotton exports from India for the season 2012-13.
