KVIC to e-track khadi scheme to check irregularities

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), has decided to set up an e-tracking system in order to ensure transparency in execution of Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

A majority of the beneficiaries of the scheme, which grants loans to micro enterprises with an aim to boost employment in urban and rural areas, are in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The e-tracking system would not just help in bringing about transparency in the scheme but would also supervise its proper execution, the KVIC's UP office said. Whereas the project would be implemented across India, the e-tracking system would first be introduced in the state of UP.

The project initiated in 2009, is amongst the biggest projects launched by the KVIC, with an aim of employment generation. The scheme is basically aimed at bringing the scattered traditional artisans together and to present them with self-employment opportunities.

Moreover, it even aims at providing constant and sustainable employment to a big chunk of traditional and potential artisans and youth in rural areas in order to exercise a check on their migration to urban areas.

As several incidences of corruption and irregularities have been recorded in KVIC's various schemes, KVIC wishes to make sure that this scheme does not confront such problems, and have thus opted for e-monitoring.

KVIC's head office has already developed software which would assist KVIC (UP) in data collection and uploading of the same.

A private agency would be engaged for the purpose by KVIC. Pursuant to the scheme, in the first phase the agency would accumulate all the details regarding the applications from the State Khadi and Village Industries Board, KVIC, District Industries Centre and associate banks and upload the same on KVIC's website.
