Amazon to create 100,000 jobs over 18 months in US

After creating over 150,000 jobs in the United States over the past five years, the world’s biggest online retailer Amazon now plans to create an additional 100,000 full time jobs in the US over the next 18 months. These jobs will be across several verticals from engineers and software developers to those seeking entry level positions at Amazon.

According to the online retailer, in addition, Amazon businesses like Marketplace and Amazon Flex will continue to create hundreds of thousands of jobs for those who want the flexibility to start their own business.

Amazon also employs over 10,000 military veterans, and last year pledged to hire and train an additional 25,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.

The company also committed itself to training 10,000 active duty service members, veterans and military spouses not employed by Amazon in cloud computing through AWS Educate.

“Innovation is one of our guiding principles at Amazon, and it’s created hundreds of thousands of American jobs and these jobs are not just in our Seattle headquarters or in Silicon Valley,” Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said. “They are in our customer service network, fulfilment centres and other facilities in local communities throughout the country.” (AR)
