Sophie Yao predicts good future for baby diaper business
November 30, 2009 (Asia)

The Disposable Hygiene & Personal Care Products Summit is the most important regional Seminar that players in this industry may attend and discuss about the market trend. Now in its fifth year, it was held in early September 2009 in Shanghai, China, attracting more than 90 of the industry's most influential international and local companies, including Avery Dennison Specialty Tape.

As a trusted partner and a leader in innovation for the industry, the Specialty Tape Division was an active participant in the lively two-day conference, as well as a high-profile sponsor of the event for the second year running. Alongside companies such as P&G, Kimberly-Clark, Johnson & Johnson, Heng'an, Unicharm and Kao, Avery Dennison discussed industry trends, new technologies and opportunities for growth.

Sophie Yao, our Product Manager of Specialty Tape Division - Asia Pacific, was a popular speaker this year, gaining further favorable attention for the company. Her presentation on Diaper Market Trends was very well received. As one of the largest and best known diaper closure suppliers in Asia Pacific, Avery Dennison is playing a key role in the popularization of these products.

Sophie predicts a good future for the baby diaper business in Asia Pacific. Currently North America, Europe and Japan account for 60% of the US$23 billion global disposable baby diaper market, but Asian demand is growing fast. China, with a low 10% market penetration for disposable diapers, is expected to be particularly strong and to drive adoption of more sophisticated product features. Another area of opportunity for the region’s diaper manufacturers is the adult diaper business. With very low current usage, an aging population and increasing acceptance of incontinence products, Asia Pacific is set to be an important growth market, Sophie believes.

Overall, the Summit was an effective way for Avery Dennison to engage with its customers and demonstrate its leadership. It allowed Specialty Tape to communicate the message which may help manufacturers to maximize their opportunities when they work with trusted suppliers to create innovative, effective and comfortable products.
