Cosmetics group Beiersdorf ties up with Kuehne + Nagel

Beiersdorf AG and logistics service provider Kuehne + Nagel signed an agreement in which the operation of Beiersdorf AG's key logistics location in Hamburg will be transferred to its new business partner.
In line with this, Kuehne + Nagel will take over the management of the main warehouse for the German market as well as handle exports to the international cosmetics group's foreign affiliates starting in June 2008.
“This new co-operation will bring more flexibility and is a key step towards meeting the constantly rising demands of the competitive European environment.
We have significantly improved our international competitiveness by restructuring our supply and production chain in the last two years,” said Markus Pinger, Beiersdorf AG's Executive Board Member responsible for logistics.
“Our system cuts costs, is flexible and environmentally friendly and boosts our innovative strength. With it, new products can be launched worldwide extremely quickly.”
One of the key criteria for signing the agreement was the preservation of the 148 jobs at the center as well as the long-term preservation of Hamburg as a logistics location.
Logistics Center employees can choose to stay with the new employer at the expanding Hamburg logistics location or to take over other duties at one of Beiersdorf's production facilities.
Kuehne + Nagel is a strong partner who can increase long-term competitiveness and guarantee reliable delivery to customers. As the third-largest contract logistics service provider in the world, the company offers more than six million square meters of warehouse and logistics space in strategically important hubs in 55 countries.
Kuehne + Nagel already employs 1,200 staff at its Hamburg location in the areas of Contract Logistics, Rail & Road, Seafreight, Airfreight, and IT.
