Brandix has extended its support to the 2013 National Occupational Safety & Health Conference organised by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as part of this year’s National Safety Week programme.

This is the fourth successive year that Brandix took the role of Main Sponsor of the programme, and the seventh time overall that the Group supported events connected to the National Safety Week initiative.

The theme for this year’s National Conference was ‘Prevention of Occupational Disease & Injuries,’ in line with the theme of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for 2013. In support of the efforts being made to promote this theme, the Brandix Group will declare a week of Occupational Safety & Health during October to increase awareness levels among its 44,000 associates.

“The Brandix Group has always strived to provide the best possible work environment, conforming with compliance regulations stipulated locally and globally,” said Suwan Perera, the Group’s Head of Risk and Control. “We therefore wholeheartedly support the efforts of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health as we see it as our responsibility as a leader in apparel manufacture in Sri Lanka.”

The sponsorship cheque for the 2013 National Safety Week programme was presented by Brandix to the Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations Mr. W. J. L. U. Wijayaweera.

“The Brandix Group’s continued support to initiatives related to occupational safety and health is exemplary,” said Dr. Champika Amarasinghe, Director General of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. “Such support helps improve awareness of the importance of this subject at many levels across industry sectors.”

The pioneer of the concept of ‘total solutions’ in Sri Lanka’s apparel sector and a preferred supplier to some of the world’s top apparel labels, Brandix is Sri Lanka single largest apparel exporter. The Group employs more than 44,000 people at 42 manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh, and is a benchmark and international award winner for eco-friendly manufacture and commitment to environmental best practice.
