Research firm Canesis to support Ecoglo

Canterbury based Canesis Network Ltd is applying its science, engineering and commercialisation expertise to help manufacturer Ecoglo meet soaring international demand.

Canesis Network won safety lighting company Ecoglo's tender to design and build an automatic production line that transports aluminium strips holding photo-luminescent material into an industrial-sized oven which 'bakes' the photo-luminescence onto the safety strips.

The investment has enabled Ecoglo, which is working at full capacity to supply American orders after the September 11 tragedy, to meet the exponentially increasing demand for its product and take a market lead.

Canesis Network is leveraging its internationally-recognised expertise in processing and engineering into diverse new business applications. These include process and environmental engineering solutions for manufacturing, smart textiles with electronic applications, intelligent polymers for use in everything from medical devices to building materials, and dietary supplements and personal care products for healthier skin, hair and joints.

Ecoglo and Canesis already have a history built on Canesis innovation – Ecoglo contracted Canesis to apply knowledge gained from research into carpet manufacture to its original photoluminescent lighting recipe.

Canesis chief executive Andrew MacPherson states that while they have their roots in wool, their capabilities are highly transferable and have moved beyond the wool and textile industries. They can add value to a number of industry sectors from machinery manufacturers, to food, dairy and cosmetics and dietary supplements.
