Ginni filament forays into medical textile consumer products

GINNI Filaments Ltd (GFL), a leading textile Conglomerate, producing yarns, knitted fabrics and garments, has launched its full range of Medical textile based Wound and health Care products through its Consumer Product Division (CPD) in the domestic as well as the global market.

"To meet the growing demand of medical textiles in the domestic as well as the global market, the company has set up a state-of-art manufacturing unit in Haridwar. The manufacturing unit is ISO 9001- 2000 certified and it has latest and advanced technological machineries to maintain high standards of hygiene, which are the basic necessity for any wound care product." Said Mr. Shishir Jaipuria, Managing Director, Ginni Filaments

"Medical textiles are used in a range of applications from wound-care products and surgical drapes and gowns to tissue-engineering scaffolding. They are also a burgeoning sector within the technical textiles industry. The Medical and technical textiles are fastest growing sectors of the global textile industry. The current Indian technical textile market is worth Rs 29,000 crore (Approx US $ 7.5 billion) as per Tata Economic Consultancy Services report. Textiles used for medical, healthcare and hygiene are classified as Medical textiles or Meditech." said Mr. Jaipuria.

"The company will manufacture prefabricated, ready to use medical textile products which will be made from various bio-compatible skin-friendly fibers with some inherent properties and added functionalities. The products, which includes Gauges, Bandages, Swabs, Surgical Gowns, Lab coats, Nursing Gowns and protective apparel with special coatings and membranes, will be biodegradable and non-biodegradable" added Mr. Jaipuria.

"Healthcare and hygiene products division of the company includes baby wipes, cosmetic wipes, kitchen towels, surgical wound dressing products and protective apparels." said Mr. Vikas Chhawchharia, Business Head, Consumer Product Division.

"These medical textiles, ready to use healing products, come with anti bacterial features. The products are lint free, more absorbent & chemical free which helps in healing the wound faster. Understanding the need of advanced and latest dressings to facilitate faster healing, it is obligatory on the part of manufacturers to shift their focus from traditional to advanced dressings. The time has come for the consumers and manufacturers to come together and bring a revolution in medi-care segment." Mr. Chhawchharia said.

"Surgeons wear, wound dressings, bandages, artificial ligaments, sutures, artificial liver, kidney, lungs, nappies, sanitary towels, vascular grafts,heart valves, artificial joints/bones, eye contact lenses and artificial cornea and the like are some of the examples of medical textiles", he added.
