Huntsman Textile Effects said it is working closely with Korean textile exporter Daechun Co. Ltd to deepen its commitment to sustainability.

Under a MoU signed on March 25, Huntsman Textile Effects will help Daechun streamline operations and train technical staff at its textile mill in Gyunggi Province.

“This reinforces the Korean mill’s growth as an eco-friendly export business and builds on its reputation as a sustainability leader in the global marketplace,” Huntsman said in a press release.

According to Huntsman, Daechun has already adopted Huntsman Textile Effects’s state-of-the-art technologies to improve their efficiency at its Gyunggi plant.

These include the Novacron P reactive inks for textile printing and the Clarite One, the all-in-one pretreatment for peroxide bleaching.

With Huntsman’s support, Daechun is seeking to further enhance its chemical management capabilities as it continues to develop new products for its global markets.

“Specifically it will optimise its chemical management processes from pretreatment to finishing and set up a waste print paste system,” Huntsman added.

Huntsman Textile Effects experts will carry out an operational audit called PIP, on a need basis at Daechun’s facility and recommend ways for the mill to improve productivity and profitability.

Implemented in many mills around the world, the Huntsman PIP has proven to be capable of reducing overall energy consumption while increasing output by up to 30 per cent and improve right-first-time performance by up to 95 per cent.

Huntsman Textile Effects will also work closely with Daechun to support product development and testing programs at Huntsman’s laboratories.

DK Kim, president, Daechun Co. Ltd, said, “As a major producer of high-quality textiles for global markets, we continuously develop new products and look for new ways to meet the highest environmental standards.

He added, “Our investments in digital printing technology and our commitment to organic materials and eco-friendly inks and dyes illustrate our approach.”

“With Huntsman Textile Effects as our innovation partner, we are now going even further in adopting sustainability best practice to achieve an even cleaner supply chain,” he observed.

Jay Naidu, VP - Strategic Marketing and Planning, Huntsman Textile Effects also said, “Korea’s textile mills are high-quality manufacturers, able to deliver high-value products to the most demanding brands.”

“Companies like Daechun are leading the way and showing other mills what it takes to compete at this level; namely, a commitment to investing in sustainability and continuous improvement,”

“Huntsman Textile Effects is pleased to support Daechun in its on-going drive to explore efficient, ecological and economical ways to save energy and water,” Naidu noted.

Korea’s textiles and apparel export value stood at $15.9 billion in 2014, accounting for 2.8 per cent of total exports. (AR)
