Clarity and trendiness characterise the fashion landscape in winter 09/10. No unnecessary frills or eccentric design craziness here. Instead, the focus is on craftsmanship and authenticity with the new shoe and bag fashion. Boots and ankle boots still play the leading role, surprising with new shaft lengths that open the door to unimagined wearing possibilities. An enormous variety of styles and subtle colour schemes leave us in anticipation of an exciting shoe season in which classic elements are newly interpreted with a touch of spirituality. Colours
At first, the colour spectrum for the coming winter season seems very dark, almost mystical. Black and near-black shades that move between midnight blue, forest green, petrol, asphalt, dark violet and deep reds show themselves from a mysterious side. Neutral hide and leather tones set contrasts to this extreme darkness with a variety of shades from beige to grey to taupe. Red and berry shades bring life into the game. Medium brown tones — particularly the trend colour cognac — will bring new impulses into the shoe and bag fashion.
Materials
The material picture changes along with the colour schemes. Silky gloss, represented by highly polished Napa or suede, and a bit of patent leather, remains in the upcoming winter. New on the scene are matt, velvety surfaces. Nubuk and velour with a soft, supple hand are gaining importance. A natural used look is allowed in the sporty sector. Double-face materials with open edges radiate a sporty-luxurious aura. The same applies to high-quality croc and reptile embossings, utilised all over or as inserts with shoes, boots and bags. The overall rather conservative colour and material scheme is livened by decorative elements, for example clasps and rivets in gun metal look, or hide and fur trimmings, as well as fringes and patchwork themes.
Forms
The variety of the past summer season is continued in the upcoming winter. The spectrum ranges form rounded oval shapes to shortened, so-called iron tips to square-toe styles. Innovations are apparent in individual product groups. Boots — the favourite in the women's' world — are offered in a wide variety of shaft lengths. New are styles that at least reach the knee; sometimes well above. Soft materials allow the boots to be worn over-knee or casually pushed down. Calflength biker boots have an earthy vibe with a touch of rock-star allure; heavy soles and metal accessories lend authenticity.
Boots and ankle boots have also worked their way into men's fashion. The fashionconscious man wears elongated Chelsea boots with tight, sometimes shortened trousers. Sporty looks are embellished by rustic lace-up boots and farmer boots in which the jeans legs are casually stuffed.
Boots and ankle boots remain indispensable for women. Platforms and wedges optically lengthen the legs. Cuban heels ensure the necessary stability in spite of staggering heights. The trend in soles leans toward rustic looks. Crepe and profiles are a must not only with mountain-climber styles, also lending the desired sporty note to feminine pumps. Classic with a twist is the motto with the re-discovered loafers and college shoes. The new styles appear not only with low heels — high, Cuban heels and short insteps are en vogue.
