India : Pierre Cardin signed for redesigning A-I uniforms May 10, 2005 |  | Famous French haute couture king Pierre Cardin will design the inflight employees unifome for the premier Indian air carrier - Air-India.
This was revealed by Cardin who flew down to Mumbai to finalize the designs to be introduced by the airline, this winter.
While major airline like Air France, SAS, BA and others have already gone for a change or in the process of introducing new uniforms. Yves Saint Laurent, Richard Tyler, Peter Weiss and a host of other designers have designed uniforms for famous airlines.
Air India sought professional advice of Cardin, known for his elegant cuts for women and pioneer of fashion for men, to provide inputs and suggestions on the 'new look' that the airline proposed to introduce in November.
Three leading Indian designers - Ritu Beri, Satya Paul and Tarun Tahiliani on Monday made presentations in Cardin’s presence. Another famed designer JJ Walia was also expected to make a presentation later, according to inflight director Amod Sharma.
The second round of collection, incorporating some of the suggestions made by Cardin, would be made in June.
Final presentations of the selected apparels are scheduled for display during fashion shows on September 16 and 18.
In 1999, the current in-house designed blue uniform was introduced, and the new one is proposed to be donned by cabin crew, commercial and ground staff and pilots. | | |
