In a major boost to Maharashtra's textile industry, the state government signed an agreement with Raymond for setting up a Rs1,500 crore plant at Nandgaonpeth in Amravati.

The government allocated 500 acres of land to Raymond Group for setting up the state-of-the-art plant.

Making an announcement in Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the investment would generate about 7,500 jobs. Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania was present in the Visitors' Gallery when the Chief Minister made the announcement.

Ahead of allocating land to Raymond, the government had already allocated land to other textile units like Shyam Indofab, VHM Industries, Suryalakshmi and Siyaram Silk Mills.

Collectively, these other factories would be investing Rs 2,200 crore while generating about 5,200 jobs. Fadnavis said Shyam Indofab has already started production while others would be commencing shortly.

The CM said the government has decided to set up textile parks in the cotton belt of Vidarbha, besides in Marathwada and north Maharashtra through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

Apart from Nandgaon Peth, the textile parks will come up at Yavatmal, Chikhli (Buldana), Jamner (Jalgaon), Kannad (Aurangabad), Selu (Parbhani), Bhaler (Nandurbar), Malegaon (Nashik) , Krishnur (Nanded) and Majalgaon (Beed). (SH)
