German mountain sports equipment manufacturer Vaude has bagged awards for sustainability and innovative products at the recent ISPO trade fair in Munich. Vaude's Green Shape Core collection, an entire range of sustainable products won three ISPO awards while its innovative Trail Spacer backpack with a 3D knitted back bagged an ISPO gold award.

With the Green Shape Core collection, Vaude offers authentically sustainable gear for a wide variety of outdoor activities. The collection includes 19 products − apparel, shoes and backpacks − that are designed for a broad range of outdoor activities. With a natural look and feel, they unite function with a feel-good factor and long service life. About 90 per cent of the diverse textile materials used in the production process are bio-based, recycled or purely natural materials. Unconventional, renewable raw materials such as cow's milk, wood and castor oil are also used.

The collection includes Green Core M backpack, the Green Core Mid shoe and the Green Core Fleece Jacket. Vaude has used a newly developed material with Tencel in the jacket, which is completely biodegradable and does not release any microplastics that could end up in our seas.

"For this collection, Vaude has developed innovative materials that are high performing and environmentally friendly, while at the same time offer solutions for global environmental challenges such as microplastics pollution. In this fashion, the company has emphasised its pioneering position and has demonstrated the scope of possibility for the future of outdoor gear," Antje von Dewitz, Vaude CEO.

For the lightweight and innovative Trail Spacer backpack, Vaude has developed a seamless knitted back section that – like a vest – adapts perfectly to the person wearing it. The stretch knit construction not only offers ambitious outdoor athletes optimum support, it also offers comfort, freedom of movement and ventilation. "The 3D knit construction ensures a perfect fit and good ventilation on your back. A lightweight pack for a variety of sports that conserves resources in the manufacturing process," said Edith Zuschmann, jury member, long-distance runner and blogger. (RR)
