"Walmart is the most effective in integrating overseas sources, outsourcers, into its supply chain. We asked her to explain as to how that came about, to which she replied by saying, “An efficient and robust supply chain is the cornerstone of Walmart's business and helps it optimize costs to derive savings on its products. This is a critical aspect as with these savings, we are able to pass the benefits accrued from this efficiency on to our customers and make their lives better.

“We are a strong supporter of SMEs as a sustainable business model which is efficient and cost effective and it is in keeping with our philosophy of saving people's money so they can live a better life. Currently, we work with 116 private brand suppliers, 70 percent of which are Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

“As part of our various training and capacity building programmes, we support SMEs in a variety of ways, including sharing information and resources to help raise efficiency standards; improve their production techniques, provide technological support and hone management skills. Our suppliers in India have shown that they are innovative and respond quickly to global best practices, emerging trends and opportunities.

She concluded by saying, “As Bharti Walmart continues to nurture suppliers locally, we also leverage our global scale to benefit these suppliers, i.e. help transform them into exporters with access to our global markets over time”.
