Cotton procured by CCI not to be kept unused: minister

The Indian government will ensure that cotton procured by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is not kept unused, leading to problems for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to minister of textiles and women and child development Smriti Irani, who recently said the two-decade-old problem of obligation of Hank yarn production has also been resolved.

She said this while inaugurating the TEXPROCIL award function recently, according to an official press release.

TEXPROCIL is the first export promotion council set up in India in 1954 and is responsible for promoting export of cotton textiles. In fiscal 2018-19, the council members exported $ 11.5 billion worth cotton textiles.

Welspun Global Brands Ltd, Vardhman Textiles Ltd., Trident Ltd., Nahar Spinning, Arvind Ltd, Himatsingka Seide, BVM Overseas, Loyal Textiles Mills Ltd., Lahoti Overseas, Premier Mills, Indo Count Industries were among the companies who received awards at the event.
