Govt estimates Kharif cotton crop at 33.51 mn bales

The estimate is lower by 1.12 million bales than its production of 34.62 million bales during 2014-15 (1^st Advance Estimates), the Ministry said in a statement. It added that 33.51 million bales is the preliminary estimate and it would undergo revision based on further feedback received from the states.

For 2015-16, the Ministry has set cotton production target of 35.15 million bales.

During the current monsoon season, the cumulative rainfall has been deficient by 15 per cent, i.e. higher than rainfall deficit of 12 per cent in 2014-15. (RKS)
