Rio de Janeiro to host Global Footwear Leaders Summit

From November 7 to 8, 2011, Brazil will be the meeting point of the main leaders of the world market of footwear, when trade bench mark event will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro: the 4th World Footwear Congress, the official event of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC).

Featuring an ample business focused program, the congresses will bring together some 400 of the leading world players and speakers of 20 countries to discuss the world situation of leather and footwear, the industries featuring a world turnover exceeding US$ 250 billion/year.

The events will be organized and cosponsored by the fairs Couromoda (Brazil) and Micam (Italy), the top worldwide sectorial events.

Abicalçados - Brazilian Association of the Footwear Industry will be the host organization, with as co-hosts CICB - Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry, Assintecal - Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Devices and Abrameq - Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment for the Leather, Footwear and Allied Trades.

Francisco Dos Santos, Couromoda president, has been participating actively in the structuring process of these congresses. Together with Roland Smets, executive director of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (Brussels), and with Vito Artioli, president of the entity as well as president of ANCI -National Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers (Milan), Dos Santos participated in defining the themes of the 4th World Footwear Congress. On the other hand, Couromoda, with its experience in organizing major trade fairs and international congresses will be the operational arm of the Rio de Janeiro events.

The president of Couromoda emphasizes that organizing these two important congresses in Brazil will give the Brazilian leather and footwear industry an exceptional international visibility. "The fact of our discussing almost jointly the production of footwear and the situation of the leather supply, its most noble raw material, is a pioneering and positive initiative, as the sector integration is vital cope with the challenges of markets that expand and modify at a dramatically fast rate."

"Moreover, the Brazilian leather/ footwear industry will have a unique opportunity to show itself as a major manufacturer and a partner ready to enhance its presence on the world market and reassert itself as the largest producer of leather in the world and largest shoe manufacturer outside Asia."
