Leather goods exports show an uptrend in July

Pakistan's leather goods exports for the month of July this year showed an uptrend and grew to US$ 53.883 million, registering a year-on-year rise of 7.12 percent, the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) data showed.

When compared with leather exports worth US$ 46.558 million achieved during June 2011, the exports recorded a growth of 15.73 percent.

The leather items that contributed to positive export growth included leather garments, which grew by 8.57 percent from July 2010's US$ 39.261 million to US$ 42.629 million in July this year.

Likewise, leather gloves exports hiked from July 2010's US$ 10.239 million to US$ 10.277 million in July this year, registering a rise of 0.37 percent.

Other leather items, however, registered negative export growth and plummeted by 12.21 percent to US$ 0.977 million in July this year from last July's US$ 1.113 million.

Footwear exports grew by 13.75 percent from July 2010's US$ 9.770 million to US$ 11.114 million in July 2011. This growth included rise in leather footwear exports by 18.18 percent and canvas footwear exports by 50 percent.

According to the FBS statistics, leather footwear exports grew from July 2010's US$ 8.116 million to US$ 9.591 during July 2011, while canvas footwear exports which registered US$ 0.018 million during July 2010 rose to US$ 0.035 in July this year.

However, other footwear items exports dropped by 9.94 percent to US$ 1.488 million during July this year, as against exports worth US$ 1.636 million during July 2010.

Tanned leather exports grew by more than five percent from July 2010's US$ 37.050 million to US$ 39.049 million this July, the FBS figures revealed.
