Preliminary work in respect of Sialkot Tanneries Zone (STZ), coming up on an area of 392 acres, has already commenced, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry has revealed.

The STZ, he said, is aimed at addressing the issues of environmental degradation, which have spurred due to environmental pollution caused by the tanneries located in the vicinity of the city.

Tanneries engaged in finished leather and Wet Blue hides' processing result in air, water and noise pollution, thus leading to degradation of environment.

The SCCI President said the STZ is expected to provide space to around 276 tanneries that are presently operating in 10 clusters across Sialkot.

He stated that the city's business community not only plays a vital role in overhauling the export city, but also helps it meet its social obligations with great fervour.
