Pakistan's current international policy is to strengthen ties with Sri Lanka by modifying the present trade regulations and opening up markets for a variety of Pakistani products.
The two countries had inked a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in 2005 and since then, relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan has improved miraculously. This can be amply evidenced from the fact that the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan is all set to launch a trade expo starting from January 11 to 13 at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
This Pakistan single country exhibition will see participation by over 100 leading Pakistani companies belonging to 25 different sectors. Experts believe that invigorating Pakistani production in Sri Lanka and increasing interaction between traders of both sides should be given utmost importance.
Exports from Pakistan to Sri Lanka have nearly doubled in the past three years from US $97 million to $200 million. Besides, both the countries are making efforts to sustain and redirect bilateral trade for mutual benefit and development.
