FTA wih Canada nearing conclusion

The Foreign Minister Ms Mercedes Araoz made an announcement to the effect that Peru and Canada were close to concluding negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement.
Ms Araoz, scheduled to meet the Canadian Foreign Minister David Emerson over the weekend, informed that both teams had almost finalized the terms of the agreement during the talks on Monday.
Her meeting with David Emerson will be to finalize the details & put a stamp of approval to the agreement. She said, "The closing negotiations of the agreement represent Peruvian efforts to rapidly expand international economic relations."
She added, "We have gone faster than our Colombian colleagues who went along with us in the negotiation process; we hope Colombia can reach this agreement soon."
Minister Aráoz also mentioned that trade negotiations are an important tool to face the current international crisis, amid growing fears of a US recession. The discussions were started by both the countries on July 16 last year.
