Export price of leather shoes see a hike

Reports from Chinese import and export of light industrial products Chamber of Commerce show that exports of leather shoes to the EU decreased 10 million pairs from January to November in 2007.

However, figures show that total earnings of the country increased, with average prices up by 16.6 percent over the same time of the previous year. According to an official from the Chamber of Commerce, the level of leather shoes exports was upgraded after EU levied anti-dumping tax on Chinese shoes.

In the period from January to November 2007, China exported 7.8 billion pairs of footwear, worth $23 billion, with average price set at $2.95 per pair, representing a growth of 9.2, 16.3 and 6.5 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.

Of all the export markets, China shipped 110 million pairs of shoes to the EU, demonstrating a fall of 6.7 percent over the same period last year, which was somewhere around 120 million pairs. Foreign currency earnings reached $800 million, surging 8.8 percent against the same period last year that touched $730 million. The average export price was $7.45 per pair, rising to 16.6 percent over $6.39, last year.

It can be observed, this year, China's export price of leather shoes to the EU has seen a double-digit growth, with around 30 percent surge on an average, rising year-on-year.

Although export figures indicate a bright future, experts are quite apprehensive that EU may continue with the anti-dumping duty, which is about to expire by the October this year.
