General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of China has given permission to Peru for exporting leather into Chinese markets.
Trade between Peru and China showed a year-on-year increase of nearly 50 percent in the period from January to November amounting to some US $4.97 billion.
Peru's exports to China have seen a steady rise since 2002 and credit for this largely goes to enormous imports made by China. Exports in 2006 made $2.27 billion, of which minerals comprised $1.6 billion.
In fact, China is one of Peru's second largest trading partners and it will very soon become the foremost if the trading area is expanded.
On the other hand, Peruvian exports to the US have been declining since 2003, when about a third of its exports went to the US from January to November 2007, Peru's exports to the US accounted for below 19 percent of its total.
