Russia holds enormous potential for us. The sectors that look promising include pharmaceuticals, tea and tobacco. We would like to revive tea trade," Mr Nath said.

He said there is considerable scope for collaboration in the service sector. The Russian oil boom is driving the domestic IT sector to grow.

Though big Indian IT companies are absent in Russia, things are changing. Mr Nath said, "The Russian technology sector has much to offer us. Similarly, Indian banking industry can play a role in strengthening Russia's financial sector."

Speaking at the forum, Ms E S Nabiullina, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Russian Federation, said India-Russia forum will open new avenues and boost trade between the two countries.

The forum will help us identify new opportunities and facilitate dialogue. The Joint Study Group has been studying measures to boost Indo-Russian trade and provide impetus to co-operation. The group has also helped us forge a closer partnership."

Mr Alexander Shokhin, President of Russia's Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen, said, "The pace of economic growth in Russia and India has expanded scope of co-operation in the recent years.

To realize the full potential of economic ties, we need institutional mechanism to boost trade. We should remove trade barriers and encourage businessmen from both sides to forge stronger ties."

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Mr Nand Khemka, Chairman, India-Russia Joint Business Council, FICCI, said, "This is just the beginning of our success stories. We have a long way to go.

Both India and Russia are witnessing generational transformation in their economies." Making concluding remarks, Mr Shiv Khemka, Chairman, Russia Committee, CII, called for greater economic co-operation between India and Russia.
