Industry infrastructure requires integrated approach, Shri Nath

The Minister underlined that the IIUS launched recently, focussed on infrastructure upgradation of existing industrial clusters. 25 projects are currently under implementation and 5 of these projects are nearing completion.

“We expect this scheme to continue in the 11th Plan with suitable modifications based on the outcome of the ongoing critical evaluation”, he said.

As regards the Industrial Park Scheme, the Minister stated that Income Tax exemption is available to infrastructure developers for any ten consecutive years out of fifteen years beginning from the year in which the eligible projects commence operation.

The response to this scheme has been good and it is estimated that close to Rs.14000 crore have been invested towards the creation of infrastructure for industry.

Explaining the recent initiatives, Shri Kamal Nath said: “We have also initiated a novel approach for infrastructure development along the proposed Delhi-Mumbai Rail Freight Corridor through creation of high impact/market driven nodes such as Integrated Investment Regions (IRs) and Industrial Areas (IAs).

These nodes/regions are proposed to be self-sustained industrial townships with world-class infrastructure, road and rail connectivity for freight movement to and from ports and logistics hubs, served by domestic/international air connectivity, reliable power, quality social infrastructure so as to provide a globally competitive environment for setting up businesses”.

S/Shri Joshi, Rajasekara Murthy, Sudhangshu Seal and Ram Singh Kaswan stressed the need for further investments in the industrial infrastructure for a balanced growth of industry in all areas and particularly the backward areas. Shri Naresh Gujral desired that the focus should be given to skill development for enabling youth to get the jobs.

Shri Rajeev Shukla and Shri Shantaram Naik drew the attention towards real estate valuation in setting up of industrial estates and requested for exploring the possibilities for development of industrial infrastructure on wastelands.

Shri Sambasiva Rao thanked the Minister for approving the Spice Park at Guntur (Andhra Pradesh). Shri Kamal Nath noted all the points while seeking further guidance from the Members for development of industrial infrastructure.
