India-Africa Conclave to focus on technology, agriculture, HR & energy

Emphasising that Indian companies could play a significant role there, he spoke of the Tata Group's involvement in Africa since 1976, in various areas such as transport, information technology, hotels, mining and telecom.
Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar, Co-chairman, CII Africa Committee and CMD, Kirloskar Brothers, whose company also has a presence in more than 25 African countries, highlighted India's potential role in providing the 'Triple A: affordable, adaptable, appropriate technology' to Africa. He said, "Africa is the success story waiting to happen and one which will soon happen."
Ms. Gannet Zewide, Ethiopian Ambassador to India, reiterated that point, saying " Many African countries are growing at double digits, such as Ethiopia. Africa is striving to close the chapter of poverty."
Mr John Bentum Williams, the High Commissioner of Ghana to India, said, " The process of involvement of Indian entrepreneurs to Africa is well timed, as Africa has a lot of potential now."
Ms. Nimisha Madhwani, the Ugandan Ambassador to India, said that, contrary to the negative image of Africa portrayed in the media "Africa is a safe investment destination." She further added, "only 10% of Africa is developed in spite of its large size…think of the opportunities."
Mr. Tarun Das, Chief Mentor, CII, emphasised that the core of the India-Africa relationship was the 'people-to-people' relationship.
He spoke of the common histories and common challenges faced by India in Africa to eliminate poverty by building and empowering people, in building infrastructure and connectivity and through low-cost, appropriate technology.
He hoped that the conference would not only increase economic cooperation and joint partnerships, but would go beyond that to 'build a human bridge between India and Africa.' Africa, he said, "is the Continent of Light – that's where the sun will shine tomorrow."
