EU-Israel Business Dialogue to boost bilateral business & investment

What we need to do in the EU is to make it clear that Israel is a strong, booming economy and that investment in Israel will help to overcome the political tensions in the region which many in Europe see as an obstacle.
I expect you to identify the practical problems which prevent us from fully exploiting the potential, identify unnecessary obstacles and trade barriers.”
Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour Eliyahu Yishai told the founding meeting that: “Israel attaches high importance to the creation of the business dialogue, as we believe that our major trade partner should also become a much larger business partner.
I trust that bringing the two business communities together will be a significant element in further enhancing the already stable and strong economic ties shared by the EU and Israel.”
During his November 1 visit to Israel, Vice President Verheugen also held meetings with President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert both of whom found time to address the founding meeting of the EU-Israel Business Dialogue.
The Israeli side is of the Dialogue is chaired by internet entrepreneur and investor Mr. Yossi Vardi while the European side is led Dr. Mathias Doepfner, Chairman and CEO of the German media group Axel Springer.
In its first year of operations the EUIsrael Business Dialogue will focus on the sectors of: banking and finance; infrastructure, clean tech and energy; commerce and industry; telecommunication and media.
At its founding session, the Dialogue established a working plan including a series of sectorial meetings to be held in the margins of large international business conferences.
