During a meeting with Mr Mohammad Ijaz Abbassi, President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) yesterday, Dr Saleh Al Jawarneh, Ambassador of Jordan in Pakistan stated that the first round of talks on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Jordan and Pakistan will be held sometime in August this year.
The ambassador emphasized the need to improve bilateral trade and economic relations especially through mutual cooperation in the agricultural sphere. Besides, he was also of the opinion that exports of textile, leather and sports goods to Jordan could be substantially enhanced.
Although the two countries shared an amicable political relation there was a pressing need to revive and strengthen economic and commercial ties. Mr jawaneh also concluded that diplomatic relation with Pakistan had been initiated since the 1950s and in the years to come both the Governments should strive to attain a more comfortable zone of trade relations.
