In a recently held seminar, Better Business through Eco and Energy Efficiency, Dr M Tamim, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser, stated that the State-owned Power Development Board (PDB) would open its doors for private sector to make investments in electricity transmission lines.

Privatization will help the Government to lessen the gap between huge demand and limited source of supply in the country and private sector is seen as the best option for generating power.

During the conference representatives from various associations including The German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association(BGMEA), discussed diverse options for using energy resources effectively.

The participating organizations even discussed about the difficulties being faced by them in their respective fields. Fazlul Hoque, BKMEA President, expressed his worry regarding the reluctance of buyers to pay high price for ready-made garments.

BKMEA President further stated that an alarming increase in the prices of raw materials has been observed, which has become a matter of concern for the entrepreneurs. Although the manufacturers are trying to maintain stability in the price, yet raising cost of production has affected the industry.
