Ivanna Institute of Fashion Technology organised a lecture cum demonstration on techniques in knitting on 14th May, 2008. The resource person was Mr Amardeep Singh Kalra,Head of the Knitting Technology department at the Govt Institute of Textile and Knitting Technology.
The lecture cum demonstration was specially organised for the fashion technology students studying under the PTU distance education mode. The students of graduation and post graduation in Fashion technology attended the lecture.
They were told about the various types of knitted garments and the classification of knitted garments. The different types of weft and warp knitting fabrics were discussed. Students were told how to identify the different knits and also how to make a decision as to which one should be used in which garment.
The knitting machinery used was also discussed. The qualities of end product knitted fabrics were discussed in detail. Mr Kalra showed certain swatch samples to the students and made them identify different knits.Processes of Fully cut,fully fashioned, integral knitted and cut stitch shaped knitted garments were also discussed.
“Ivanna fashion students who will be working in the fashion houses at Ludhiana will be dealing mostly with the knitted fabrics; hence, it is very important for each one of them to know the fabric details, with precision .” said Manmeet Sodhia, the director of the institute.
