Smt Meira Kumar distributes scholarships to SC students

Smt. Meira Kumar, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Chairperson of Dr. Ambedkar Foundation gave away Scholarship Awards to the meritorious students of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from State Education Board/Council Examinations in an award distribution function here.

167 students from 16 states were given these awards under the Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Scholarship Scheme. Addressing on the occasion, She urged the students to acquire knowledge from all possible means, including the information technology.

She expressed hope that all the meritorious students would continue their study for higher Education. Shri K.M. Acharya Secretary of the Ministry was also present in the function.

Smt. Meira Kumar informed that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment runs various schemes for the SC students i.e. Top Class Education Scheme for providing professional courses in medicine, engineering, law, fashion technology etc. through 127 institutes of eminence; Rajiv Gandhi National Scholarship Scheme for providing scholarship in M. Phil and P.hd and Post metric Scholarship Scheme for SC students.

She also informed that under the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme, the Ministry has increased the financial support for students from 8200 Dollars to14,000 Dollars in USA and 5200 Pounds to 9,000 Pounds in Britain.

Beside these, the Ministry is also running Professional Pilot Licensing Course to trained SC students in civil aviation sector and Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme to provide accommodation to SC students.
