The Dallas program is administered by the Volunteer Center of North Texas, which manages the internships and trains agencies to better recruit, interview and select candidates. Each nonprofit is responsible for interviewing and hiring its own interns. This process helps ensure that the unique needs of each agency are best met.
“We are proud of our ongoing partnership with ExxonMobil on the Community Summer Jobs Program, which continues to match talented college students with Dallas nonprofits that benefit immensely from their skills and enthusiasm,” said Phyllis Bernstein, chair, Volunteer Center of North Texas' Dallas County Council on Volunteerism.
“The addition of one full-time intern has a large impact on each of the selected nonprofits, many of which operate with limited resources and staff members. We look forward to seeing the outstanding work these interns produce to benefit their agencies over the course of the summer and beyond.”
Since the program began in 1971 in New York City, ExxonMobil has provided more than $8.4 million to support nearly 4,000 internships in 10 states, including Alabama, Alaska, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming, and internationally in Angola. Since the Dallas program began 18 years ago, ExxonMobil has funded more than 1,325 internships with grants totaling more than $2.7 million.
