The socio-economic development and trade results for the last five months of this year were announced at a meeting of the Government in Ashgabat on June 13.
The state's Statistics Committee revealed that Turkmenistan produced goods worth Manat74.9 trillion in the period between January-May, surging by 20.8 percent compared to the same period last year. The total GDP growth rate stood at 106.5 percent and in terms of real prices it reached Manat41 trillion.
While the production of lint cotton grew by 115.5 percent, the output for fertilizer dropped by 14.4 percent. Additionally, investments in the country also went up by 60.6 percent touching Manat9,99,3 billion in the first four months of 2008.
Trade turnover in January-April 2008 equaled US $5, 549, 7 million, up 32.2 percent. Turkmenistan exported goods worth $3,891,1 billion, a 37 percent increase compared to last year. Imports, on the other hand, grew by 22.1 percent to touch 1,658,6 billion. Trade surplus saw a year on year rise of 50.6 percent to $2,232,5 billion.
