Provisional estimates show that, when comparing April 2008 to the corresponding month last year, the industrial producer price index of the sampled enterprises declined by 3.9 per cent.
Monthly changes: In April 2008, compared with the previous month, producer prices in total industry declined by 1.2 per cent. Prices in the domestic market were unchanged for the Consumer Durables and Energy sectors whilst increases were registered for the Intermediate Goods sector, Consumer Non-Durables and Capital Goods sector.
Non-eurozone export prices were particularly stable during the comparable months except for a decrease in the Capital Goods sector. Eurozone export prices registered decreases in the Intermediate Goods, Capital Goods and in the Consumer Durables sectors whilst an increase was registered in the Consumer Non-Durables sector.
Annual changes: When comparing April 2008 to the same month last year, producer prices dropped mainly in the eurozone exports, particularly under "Consumer Durables". On the other hand the main increase was in the domestic market, under "Capital Goods".
