During a meeting held recently in Ha Noi between Mr Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Prime Minister and Mr Nasriddin Najimov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade in Uzbekistan, the potential for greater cooperation in joint-venture investment projects between the two countries was explored.

This was the second meeting with the agenda focusing on Vietnamese-Uzbek inter-governmental committee for trade economic and science-technology co-operation. Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam welcomed the Uzbekistan delegation and emphasized that the country would surely encourage the local companies to initiate joint-venture investment projects with Uzbekistan.

Mr Hai further observed that the two countries have immense potential for cooperation in diverse areas including the supply of cotton fibre, coal-gas using technology, oil and gas industries and agricultural product processing.

Minister Nasriddin on his part stated that he was impressed by the remarkable rate of economic development achieved by Vietnam, especially as its foreign capital investments had increased by 2.5 times in the current year in comparison to the previous year.

Uzbek minister also stressed that the two countries needed to increase contact and exchange visits of delegations for updating information which will in the long run give a boost to the efforts for cooperation.

Two strategic agreements, one on cooperation with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the other on oil and gas with Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation were also inked at the session.
