'Meet at Agra 2008' footwear fair gets resounding success

Agra Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Chamber (AFMEC) presented the 2nd Edition of Mega Show “Meet at Agra 2008” during November 8 & 9, 2008. The Fair was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of State for Commerce, Govt. of India, Shri Jairam Ramesh.

The Minister appreciated the initiative of AFMEC for organising the Fair in Agra which is a natural cluster of Footwear Industry & congratulated AFMEC for making the Fair so successful in a short span of 2 years. He Hailed the Indian Leather Industry for achieving its growth target of 13.67 percent at $3.47 billion during 2007-08.

He further said that four years record growth has prompted the Industry to set an ambitious target of $4.00 billion for the current fiscal and hoped that the leather export will touch $7.00 billion by 2010.

The Hon'ble Minister assured the Agra Footwear Industry of full support from the Central Govt. for Developing Leather Park, Testing Laboratory & Exhibition Centre; provided the requisite land is allotted by the State Govt. He also assured to look into the industries demand for opening a Branch of FDDI in Agra

Mr. Rafeeque Ahmed, President All India Skin & Hide Tanners & Merchants Association, Chennai said that Agra enjoys a prominent position in exports of leather footwear & earns a share of almost 28 percent of total export from India. He said that AFMEC had achieved a big success by having 120 Exhibiters in the very first edition of the Fair & this year the Fair is much larger. Efforts put in by AFMEC are remarkable & in a few years time this Fair will achieve tremendous Heights.

The two days fair was organized in a covered area of 6000 Sq. M. with 225 Stalls & participated by Manufacturers of a very vide range of components, finished leather & Footwear Machinery. There were about 15 overseas companies from USA, Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Pakistan & Srilanka which had participated either directly or through Indian companies with whom they have their collaboration.

Total Footfall touched about 12000 in 2 days. Business transactions of Rs. 400 Crores are expected to be generated by the end of the current fiscal year, with machinery topping the list. It is pertinent to mention here that All Machines exhibited in the fair were sold out.

The participants were very happy with facilities provided & the response received by them. 12 companies have already booked there stalls for the next fair. As per the feedback almost 86 percent Exhibiters have confirmed their participation next edition of the fair.

Many business visitors had also expressed their desire to exhibit in third edition. This is a definite indicator for the great success of the fair and its further growth in 2009.
