FDDI participates in 'MEET at Agra 2008'

FDDI participated in the 'MEET at Agra 2008' - a leather, footwear components & technology fair on 8th & 9th November 2008, at Kalakriti Ground, Fathebad Road, Agra. The fair was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of State for Commerce, Govt. of India, Shri Jairam Ramesh.

“Agra's importance in the Indian footwear sector will grow at a tremendous pace in the coming years & this will require trained manpower; hence the participation of FDDI was imperative.” said, Mr Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI. FDDI participated and displayed its publications and informed about its laboratory services, various training programmes and consultancy services through brochure and one-to-one meeting.

On this occasion Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, said, “Almost 25 % of Agra's population is directly or indirectly involved with the footwear industry. It has 80 modern factories,150 semi-mechanized units & about 5000 cottage units where footwear is manufactured, thus the need was realized to participate in the 'Meet' & serve the industry through the services of FDDI.”

“Agra accounts for almost 23 % of total footwear exports from India. It is foreseen that Agra's importance in the Indian footwear sector will grow at a tremendous pace in the coming years & this will require trained manpower; hence the participation of FDDI was imperative,” added Mr. Lakhara.

The fair was organized by Agra Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Chamber (AFMEC) with 225 Stalls & participated by Manufacturers of a very vide range of components, finished leather & Footwear Machinery. There were about 15 overseas companies from USA, Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Pakistan & Sri Lanka which had participated either directly or through Indian companies with whom they have their collaboration.

“The 'Meet' facilitated the exhibitors and visitors in opening new avenues for the trade besides creating a direct link to meet students, principals and teachers thus providing an opportunity to enhance the business prospect for FDDI.” said Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI.

Agra is reported to have daily production capacity of 250000 pairs of different types of footwear. It is the biggest Centre for producing footwear for the domestic market.

According to Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI, “The meet facilitated the exhibitors and visitors in opening new avenues for the trade besides creating a direct link to meet students, principals, teachers of different schools and institutes, industry and other bodies, thus providing an opportunity to enhance the business prospect for FDDI.”

On behalf of FDDI, Mr. Suresh Kumar Arya & Mr. Bal Mukund Mishra from FDDI, Noida were present at the stall. FDDI received good response.
