The constant decline in exports from October 2008 to January 2009 is of serious concern to us. The double digit decline of 22% in January 2009 ,biggest decline in last four months, reaffirm our apprehension that worst is not over, said Mr A. Sakthivel,President, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). We feel, observed FIEO Chief that the trend will continue in next few months.
With a view to reverse the trend, we have to add to competitiveness of our exports which has been partly eroded by the fiscal support given by our competitors nation to their exporters opined Mr Sakthivel. Though the global demand is declining which is reflecting on slowdown of exports but since we are still not a major player in exports,it should not result in such sharp decline in exports. We are losing orders to our competitors by small margins. If government addresses the concern raised by the exporters, we would be able to bridge the gap and get further orders, assured President FIEO.
He exuded confidence that Government will be announcing the necessary support to the exporting sector in this week.
