Istanbul 3rd Leather Fashion Fair opens its door to visitors

Istanbul Leather Fair, organized by TÜYAP in cooperation with ARTI-F Organization, and is actively supported by Turkish Leather Garments Producers Association and Turkish Leather Industry Association has opened its doors with a ceremony that is realized by the attendance of the Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas Mehdi Eker, The Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly Mehmet Büyükeksi, The Chairman of the Turkish Leather Industry Association Mahmut Yesil, The Chairman of the Turkish Leather Garments Producers Association Ramazan Hazar and sector and company representatives.

The Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas Mehdi Eker who spoke in the opening ceremony emphasized the importance of this kind of organizations for Turkish economy and added that during this period, organizing fairs need courage and as well it is very important to organize fairs for reaching the target despite all difficult conditions.

Eker who stressed the issue that raw materials of the leather goods and garments are supplied from animal husbandry also concludes that agriculture and animal husbandry sectors are affected by the economic crisis indirectly. Eker underlined the insufficient support to agriculture sector in Turkey; he said “While the support given to the agriculture in 2002 was 1.8 billion TL, animal husbandry could only received 83 billion TL out of the total amount which refers to %4.4. Today, the percent that is reserved for animal husbandry is %24.4. The animal production that had been following a decreased trend for a long time has passed into a positive trend for the first time.”

Eker who reminded that there is always this kind of economic crisis in the world mentioned that the crucial thing is the management and the solution of the problems.

The time is the time for tending alternative markets
The Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly Mehmet Büyükeksi who underlined the importance of the fair that presents the leather designs to the world said that the leather potential in Turkey is very high. Büyükeksi reminded that it is being witnessed a difficult period and the negative situation takes place in the developed countries to where the biggest part of Turkey's exportation is realized also affects our country negatively.

Büyükeksi added that there might occur very important advantages about each textile and garment sector in 2009, also said “The time is the time for working and producing more and tending alternative markets. The exportation in November increased to %47 in EU countries and %44 in neighbor countries and this shows the prominence of the alternative markets.”

Büyükeksi also mentioned that he believes the economic crisis will be ended within 1-1.5 years and this period will lead to new roads and horizons for R&D and design areas of the sector.

The world brands run to China comes back
The Chairman of the Turkish Leather Industry Association Mahmut Yesil also indicated that the difficulties in 2008 which started with low rate, low priced export and global warming has reached an exorbitant stage with the global fiscal crisis at the latest quarter of the year.
