Reacting to the recently released trade data for February 2009, Shri A Sakthivel, President, Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) said that data is along the expected line in view of contraction in global demand. President, FIEO hope that the new government will take requisite measures expeditiously – both fiscal and non fiscal - to help the export sector.
Shri Sakthivel observed that the decline in exports by 21% as well as in imports by 23% will impact the manufacturing sector which is already reeling under pressure. India's exports in 2008-2009 will be in the range of US$ 168 – 170 billion.
However, FIEO Chief said that the coming financial year should be good for exports with improvement in overseas markets. He emphasized that Indian exporters should remain in the markets, at whatsoever cost, so that they reap the dividends once the recovery process starts which seems to be just round the corner, added, Shri Sakthivel.
